“Beautiful setting ... but”

Reviewed 19 May 2018

It is difficult to write anything negative when obviously others have enjoyed staying here. When we arrived we loved the setting, the view and watching the various birds. The Casa is basic but as we…

Risposta del proprietario: Dear Paul. Thanks for your review. I'm sorry I didn't get to say hi to you personally due to having a fractured ankle, but I did welcome you via email and sms. At that time I also stressed that if you needed anything just to let me know- happy to help. Even if I can't walk at the moment I have staff who I would have sent to help you. The feed back I had from you after you arrived was that the place is wonderful and you were very happy. I therefore assumed you were fine. It was only 5 days later that I realized that you had departed without a word I did wonder why you left early. The truth is that when you arrived the weather was good, but then turned colder and wetter a few days into your stay. The weather is obviously a circumstance beyond our control. However, we did provide you with two types of heating- electric radiators and an open fireplace and wood, For reasons I don't understand, you chose not to use the heating provided and instead complain that a mountain cottage was cold and damp in bad weather. This seems to me completely illogical. Sorry. And its very unfair to blame us for this considering we did everything in our capacity to ensure your comfort and an enjoyable stay - as we do for all our guests. As to the cottage requiring updating. The cottage is 100% as seen in the photos and quoted in the description .It is over 100 years old with all the charm of a typical old Spanish cottage. It has bespoke hand made furniture , wifi, a flat screen TV on which you can watch English films and anything that's on the internet by connecting your own device. What kind of updating did you have in mind that would be in keeping with the style of the cottage which most people love? Really you are giving the cottage a negative review because you experienced some bad weather which is grossly unfair. I do not understand how you can complain about being cold if you don't use the heating provided. While May is a spring month and glorious sometime there can be bad weather. That's why the rental price is correspondingly lower than in the peak months. If you want to be assured of good weather throughout your stay might I suggest that you travel to Andalucia in June, July, August or September, You will have to pay a higher price for accommodation, but you can count on the weather being sunny all the time. In summary , I repeat that you cannot blame the cottage because the weather turned and instead of using the heating provided you chose to leave.

“Peace and quiet with stunning views for nature lovers”

Reviewed 4 Sep 2017

My husband and I have just returned from a week at Casa Bermeja feeling rested and relaxed! The casa is on owner Kate's land but it is very private and you have your own beautiful, secluded pool which is a 2 minute walk down a hill lined with cypress trees (possibly not good for those with mobility issues as it's fairly steep). Kate was helpful, friendly yet was respectful of our privacy. Kate's dogs Emily and Alfie are very friendly and visited us each day, sometimes hanging out with us at the pool. She also has 2 cats, and 2 donkeys (who like carrots!) Casares is nearby (30-40 minute walk / 5-10 mins in car). We visited one day on foot and it was a 50 minute walk back up the hill in the heat (again if you have a car, only 5 -10 mins!) but well worth the visit! There's a supermarket there to stock up and it's a very pretty little village with winding streets, white washed houses and a few restaurants. We were mainly there for the peace and quiet, and spent most days sitting round the pool watching eagles and vultures soaring overhead and listening to the goat bells and enjoying the silence! Glorious views and Kate is very helpful if you need anything. Thanks Kate, we would love to return!
